Truro Area News

The communities of St. Charles and Truro were saddened to learn of the sudden death of Terry Brant on Saturday, Nov. 7. He is the son of Dean & Twila Brant of Creston. Terry and his wife, Deb, lived in Truro for many years and had their family here. They later bought a home west of St. Charles and moved. Terry grew up in the Truro area. Our deepest sympathy is sent to Deb, Travis, and Tonya and to his parents, Dean & Twila, and to their extended family members.

People have been searching for a week for Bradley Wayne Paullin who is the son of Bob & Loretta (Stuart) Paullin of Winterset and grandson of Kathleen Stuart of St. Charles. The news they received this past Saturday was not the news we all had been hoping and praying for. Tonight there are a lot of sad people in East Peru where Bradley lived until he was a teenager, people in Winterset, Des Moines and all of Bradley’s relatives all over Iowa. Our deepest sympathy and prayers are extended to Bob & Loretta and to their extended families.  There are no words to express how bad we feel about the events of the week. When Bradley was around four years old he had received a pair of cowboy boots. He really liked those boots.  I think he even wore them to bed. Loretta said he would hardly take those boots off.  He was a cute little boy. I saw him last as a teenager and that was while they still lived in East Peru before moving to Winterset. He seemed like a nice kid. I worked with his mom both at the hospital and at the doctor’s office. We rode to work together thus becoming pretty good friends. The funeral was in Winterset on Nov. 11 at Orchiltree Funeral Home. Burial was in East Peru.

Special guests at the Monday night Truro Lions Meeting were:  Jim Cain, Lions Foundation Chairman from Norwalk, and Dean Brant, Zone Chairman from Creston. Dean is a former Truro boy and Jeri Lytton said it was good to see him again. Jeri Lytton said she had a nice visit with Jim and they reminisced about his “girls” basketball coaching days for Norwalk when Crystal Lytton, Jeri’s step-daughter, played on the I-35 High School basketball team against Norwalk and also when Dale Lytton’s step-granddaughter, Michelle Hankins, played high school basketball for Norwalk.  Jim’s daughters played in sports also at the time Crystal did.  Also on the Norwalk girl’s team playing at that time were the Burn’s girls, daughters of Bill & Sharon (Mease) Burns and granddaughters of the late Ival & Edith Mease and Bob & Freda Burns.  It is always fun to go down memory lane with those who share the same memories.

Virgil Lundy and Jeri Lytton of the Truro Lions Club attended a Zone Meeting at Murphy’s Restaurant in Lorimor, on Wednesday night. Nearly 50 were in attendance. The guest speaker helps raise puppies for the Leader Dog program for the blind. He had one of the puppies with him and had a very interesting program and demonstration. One of the prisons in Michigan has a puppy program for their inmates. While many questioned the possibility of doing that project, it has turned out to be very successful. The results have been very good for both the raising of the puppies successfully and the benefits and good feelings that the inmates receive when the puppies “graduate.”

Todd & Nancy Hagan, Connor, Nicholas & Lauren moved into their new home last Sunday with the help of Todd’s parents, Robert & Jeanette Hagan, long time friends, Mike & Jami McCuddin, Nancy’s parents, Dean & Mary Lou Parker, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark & Christy (Parker) Brommel and Colby. The biggest help they got was from their cousin, Chad Porter, who came with his truck and helped put all their belongings into two loads (just the big stuff).  It was a long day for everyone but the food at supper tasted pretty good and we all got stuffed. Now the real work begins putting everything away.

The Truro Lions will be holding their Saturday breakfast into November. The next one will be held on Nov. 21 and will be held from 7:30-9:30 a.m.

The Truro Betterment Committee’s annual Holiday Bazaar will be held on Nov. 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  They have over 20 vendors signed up for the event.  It will be held in the Student Center at I-35 School. Volunteers are still needed to make cookies and candies for the bazaar so please contact Jennifer Collins or Michell Sciarrotta if you can help out this year.

St. Charles will be having their annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 26. Everyone is invited and the meal is a free will donation.  It is held in the St. Charles Lions Club building.

A recreational center in Osceola has been in the works for several years. Do you think the community needs this center?
Yes, youth in the community need a safe place to have fun.
Yes, everyone in the community would use the facility.
No, it's just an added expense and we should try to save money, not spend it.
