Weldon News

By Mabel Shay/Kathy Mason

This has been unusual summer weather, I cannot believe the temperature is only low 60 and it is Aug. 30.

Avis Collins and Kathy Mason visited Donna and Jerry Quayle Aug. 23. Connie and Garth Deemer were visitors with Donna and Jerry.

John and Joy Nish of Truro, Iowa visited John’s parents, Larry and Letha Nish over the weekend. They shared Sunday dinner.

Jenny Hobbs celebrated her birthday Aug. 25 with her friend, Rock McBroom last weekend.

Kathy Mason and Audra Robins and Britches, her dog, visited with Grandma Nell Wright the past weekend.

Kathy Mason had Marilyn Woolsey deliver two cakes to the meal site dinner last week for Kathy’s birthday. Marilyn did a wonderful job. One chocolate and one white decorated with blue paw prints and a picture of a dog. The paw prints were unusual. Kathy had supper at her brother Charles’ home with her Weldon friends and then they played cards.

Avis Collins celebrated her birthday with Kathy Mason by eating at the boat. Others in attendance were Betty Savely, Cora Blackburn, Viola Jones, Sharon Hagen and Gretchen Hagen. They played cards at Gretchen’s home Monday afternoon.

Kathy recently received a card from Faye Worden of Colorado. She will be moving to a smaller place, a town house. Her house is too big for her to live alone.

Joe Havard is home after a stay in the hospital. He is doing fine.

Bud Hook has been in the hospital. He would appreciate cards. His address is 22809 Clarke/ Decatur Street, Weldon, IA 50264

Chris Mason has been in Clarke County Hospital but is now back in Des Moines for tests and therapy.

Kathy Mason wishes to send many thanks to all her friends who sent her cards and gifts for her birthday.

A recreational center in Osceola has been in the works for several years. Do you think the community needs this center?
Yes, youth in the community need a safe place to have fun.
Yes, everyone in the community would use the facility.
No, it's just an added expense and we should try to save money, not spend it.
