I-35 stays perfect in POI

By Matt Pfiffner - mpfiffner@osceolaiowa.com

Playing their first week as the No. 1 team in Class 2A, the Interstate 35 baseball team did nothing to lose that top spot.

The Roadrunners improved to 15-0 on the season and 11-0 in the Pride of Iowa Conference, with a perfect 4-0 week in league play.

I-35 has now won 37 regular season games in a row, dating back to July of 2007.

The top-ranked squad closed out another undefeated week with an 8-2 win at home Saturday against POI rival Southeast Warren.

Blake Brommel tossed seven innings of six-hit ball and struck out five Warhawks for the win. Sam McKinney drove in three runs on three hits, while Jake Daniels and Jordan Wisecup had two RBIs apiece. Daniels had two hits, including a home run.

The night before in Truro, I-35 scored an easy 9-0 win over Mount Ayr.

Cory Strable tossed six innings of three-hit shutout ball for the win. He struck out nine Raiders in his six innings of work. James Houchins had a triple and three RBIs, while Dillion Wickett drove in two runs. Wisecup had a three-hit night and drove in one run.

I-35 traveled to Martensdale-St. Marys Thursday night and came home with a solid 5-1 road win.

Daniels struck out 10 and allowed one earned run on two hits in seven very strong innings of work for the win. He also drove in a run, while McKinney had a pair of RBIs. Wisecup went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run.

The Roadrunners played their first game as the No. 1 team in Class 2A on June 22 at Bedford. The Bulldogs were no match for I-35, as the Roadrunners cruised to a 9-2 victory.

Strable scattered three hits and struck out four in seven innings for the win. Wickett and Brommel each had two hits and an RBI, while Daniels smacked a home run and drove in a pair of runs.

Clarke County Landfill Commission voted to proceed with a transfer station to replace the landfill after it reaches capacity, but Osceola City Council hasn't given its support for the idea. What do you think is the best option for the city of Osceola?
A transfer station would be most convenient, even if it comes at slightly higher costs than direct hauling and keeps the city in the 28E agreement.
If direct hauling to Madison County Landfill or Metro Waste Authority is the cheapest option, it's the best choice despite some inconvenience to those who currently drop off waste at Clarke County Landfill.
Although it could be the most expensive option, Clarke County should build another landfill.
I don't care what the city decides.
