After starting the season with a 1-6 record, the Interstate 35 softball team has nearly made it to the .500 mark, after going 4-3 during a busy past week.
The Roadrunners now stand at 10-11 on the season, after a 2-1 record Saturday at the South Hamilton Tournament.
I-35 defeated Jefferson-Scranton and the host Hawks, but dropped a close decision to Earlham.
In the 6-3 win over J-S, Caitlin Weeks had a huge day at the plate, with a 3-for-3 performance with two home runs, four RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Bri Douglas and Karley Jordan had one RBI each. Allison Seibert allowed three runs on six hits and struck out six for the victory.
Seibert was also solid in the Earlham game, allowing one earned run on eight hits and striking out six in seven innings of work. But she took the loss, 2-0, as I-35 could muster only four hits in the game.
The Roadrunners hammered out nine hits in a 6-1 win over South Hamilton. Kate Knutson had three of those hits, including a double, while Tess Brownlee and Kelsey Bregar had two hits each. Bregar and Weeks drove in two runs and Douglas had one RBI.
Weeks also earned the win on the hill, as she scattered eight hits and struck out two in six innings of work.
I-35 fell to 5-6 in the Pride of Iowa Conference with a 4-1 loss to Mount Ayr Friday night at home. Eight Roadrunner errors led to four unearned runs for the Raiders.
Seibert took the loss, despite allowing just four hits, no earned runs and striking out three. Weeks drove in the lone I-35 run.
The night before at Martensdale-St. Marys, the Roadrunners dropped a 3-1 POI decision to the Blue Devils. Seibert allowed two earned runs on seven hits and struck out three in the loss. Weeks had an RBI double for I-35’s lone run.
