Four losses last week, including three in South Central Conference action, dropped the Clarke baseball team to 4-15 overall and 1-11 in league play.

The Indians closed out the week with a doubleheader at Albia Thursday night. The Blue Demons claimed the opener, 10-0 in five innings, and won a pitcher’s duel in the nightcap, 3-1.

In the 10-0 loss, Clarke was held to two hits, one each from Dustin May and Walker Adams. Joe Lampe took the loss, as he allowed four earned runs on two hits and struck out five in four innings of work.

Albia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the second game of the night and led 3-0 after four. The Indians finally dented the scoreboard in the sixth, but could not get any closer than 3-1.

Ryan Harmsen was saddled with the loss, as he allowed two earned runs on two hits and struck out six in four innings of work. May pitched one inning of hitless relief. For the second game in a row, the offense was held to just two hits. Adams had one and Jason Ehrhardt the other.

The Indians traveled to Des Moines Tuesday afternoon to take on Perry at Principal Park, home of the Iowa Cubs.

Clarke led 3-2 after putting together a two-run rally in the third inning, but the Blue Jays outscored the Indians 6-1 in the fifth for an 8-4 lead. The Indians closed the gap with a pair of runs in the sixth, but dropped the decision, 8-6.

Adams had two hits, including a double, and drove in four of the team’s six runs. Dustin Robbins drove in the other two runs. Lampe and Ehrhardt joined Adams with two hits each. Harmsen allowed three earned runs on eight hits in 4-2/3 innings of work and May took the loss, as he allowed two earned runs on one hit in 2-1/3 innings.

The week began the night before with a 13-3 loss at Eddyville-Blakesburg. May had an RBI for the Indians, while Lampe and Harmsen each had one hit.
