Southern Iowa Tea Party to be held this month in Chariton

Letter to the Editor & Fellow Citizens:

Do you believe things are not right in this country? Do you feel government spending, both State and Federal, is out of control? Do you worry about the impact all of this debt is going to have on you, your children, and grandchildren and the quality of their lives? Do you support traditional marriage, defined as being between one man and one woman? Do you have concerns about the abortion issue? Do you approve of your taxes going to fund abortions? Do you think that illegal immigration is an extremely serious problem that is not being effectively dealt with by the government?

But, the biggest question of all … do you think the government works for you or does the government dictate to you? Do you agree with the Iowa Supreme Court regarding gay marriage and the manner by which it was implemented? The legislature writes law, the judiciary renders opinion on law, and the executive implements law. All three are essentially co-equal. Did the Governor have any options or did gay marriages have to immediately take place? What do YOU think?

What can a single individual do about any of this but vote?

If you have any of the above concerns, please join us at a Southern Iowa Tea Party on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. on the Chariton Courthouse lawn. Children are welcome, and be sure to bring your lawn chairs. There is strength in numbers and concerned citizens have the ability and the right to assemble and seek redress of their grievances.

Clarke County Landfill Commission voted to proceed with a transfer station to replace the landfill after it reaches capacity, but Osceola City Council hasn't given its support for the idea. What do you think is the best option for the city of Osceola?
A transfer station would be most convenient, even if it comes at slightly higher costs than direct hauling and keeps the city in the 28E agreement.
If direct hauling to Madison County Landfill or Metro Waste Authority is the cheapest option, it's the best choice despite some inconvenience to those who currently drop off waste at Clarke County Landfill.
Although it could be the most expensive option, Clarke County should build another landfill.
I don't care what the city decides.
