Area volleyball roundup: Central Decatur, Murray dive into tournament play

OSCEOLA – Clarke lost to Centerville last Tuesday night, dropping three straight sets.

The Lady Indians lost 25-11, 25-22, 26-24.

Kaitlyn Halsband and Caitlin Clark had five kills apiece to lead the team. Kiaya Dunbar had 18 digs for the team-high.

Emma Bolton and Halsband had 11 and nine assists in the loss.

BEDFORD – Central Decatur dropped three matches Saturday, but came away with one win at the Bedford tournament.

Against Class 1A No. 1 Sidney, the Cardinals were beat 2-0 (21-14, 21-13). Alaina Applegate had the team leading kills number with five.

Carlee Hamilton had 14 digs while Maizee Lindsey and Morgan Nordyke had a team-high four assists.

CD then faced Class 1A No. 11 East Mills, losing 2-0 (21-6, 21-11). The Cards had four kills total on 35 attack attempts.

Lyndsey Dale had five digs and Applegate posted a block.

Against Mount Ayr the Cardinals were unable to pick up a set, losing 2-0 (21-12, 21-16).

Applegate had three kills on 13 attack attempts. Nordyke had three assists and Addiston Graham and Lindsey tied for the team lead in digs with three.

CD’s lone win of the day came against Murray, winning 2-0 (25-19, 25-22).

Applegate had eight kills and Nordyke had three kills. Lindsey added nine assists and Hamilton added nine digs.

Mara Dykes had eight digs and River Hamaker posted a block in the win for the Cardinals.

For the Lady Mustangs, Murray’s team leader in kills was Twila Barber with seven.

Jayda Chew had four assists and Rylee Newton had nine assists.

MURRAY – Murray fell in three straight sets to Lamoni Thursday night.

The Lady Mustangs lost 25-18, 25-22 and 25-21 in each set.

Twila Barber and Kinzee Eggers both led Murray in kills with seven. Barber also had two assists and three digs and Eggers added two blocks.

Chloe Church and Emma Decker had three kills each and two digs each. Decker went 14-for-14 on serve attempts with three aces.

The loss for Murray snaps a four-game winning streak, its longest of the season.

Murray 2, Diagonal 0

Murray 2, Moravia 0

DIAGONAL – Murray had two decisive wins over Bluegrass competition Tuesday night, winning 2-0 over Diagonal and 2-0 over Moravia.

The Lady Mustangs beat the Maroonettes 25-11 and 25-10 in each set.

Chloe Church had four kills on seven attack attempts. Bailey Frederick went 13-for-13 at the service line with two aces.

Jayda Chew had two digs and two assists in the match win.

Against Moravia the Lady Mustangs won 25-14 and 25-17.

Kinzee Eggers led the charge in kills in the second game with six. Chew had five assists and two digs, doing 11 of 12 in serves with two aces.

Eggers also added two solo blocks to her credit and Rylee Newton had three digs.

Southeast Warren 3, Central
Decatur 0

LEON – The Cardinals dropped three sets to Southeast Warren last Tuesday, falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-19).

The Cards were led by Hamaker in the kills department with four. Hamilton had 11 digs for the team-high.

Nordkye and Lindsey had nine and five digs, respectively, for CD. Nordyke went 11-for-11 on serve attempts, joining Lyndsey Dale (12 of 12) and Shira Alley (11 of 11) as the only Cardinals to hold perfect from the service line.

West Central Valley 3, Interstate 35 1

STUART – Interstate 35 picked up a match opening set win, but dropped three straight in a 3-1 loss to West Central Valley.

The Roadrunners won 25-19 before losing 25-16, 25-17 and 25-18.

Jaylen Bush had seven kills and Reanna Hubbard had six kills.

Ainsley Maske had a team-high 15 kills and Calli Garner had 10 kills.

Paige Palmer had four aces on 7 of 14 serving. Maske went 13-for-13 on serves and Summer Pasutti went 9-for-9 on serves.
