Area cross country roundup: I-35's Goering runs fourth at West Central Valley, Clarke's Donaldson places in top-10 at Wayne

PLEASANTVILLE – Clarke, Central Decatur and Interstate 35 raced in Pleasantville Sept. 16th.

The Cardinal boys were the team winners, winning with a score of 51. Interstate 35 was fifth with a score of 155 and Clarke was 11th with a score of 218.

Central Decatur’s Tate Swartz was the fourth with a time of 17:20. I-35’s Wyatt Fitzgerald was not far behind Swartz, running a 17:36 for fifth fastest.

Glenn Osech and Tyson McDole finished eighth and ninth for the Cardinals, running a 17:43 and 17:45 clip.

Clarke’s Ethan Domina finished in 19:58 for 33rd fastest and Calhoun Lundquist finished in 20:16 for 38th fastest.

Interstate 35 placed with with a team score of 155.

Wyatt Fitzgerald ran a 17:36 for fourth fastest. Mason Maiers was 13th with a time of 18:27 and Cody Parish clocked in at 31st with a time of 19:57.

In the girls race, Central Decatur finished third with a team score of 84. Clarke and Interstate 35 ran with incomplete teams.

Interstate 35’s Abbi Goering was the leader for area girls, running a 21:03 for fifth fastest overall. Lauren Bussanmus was the 12th quickest overall, running a 22:22 time.

Clarke’s Katie Donaldson ran a 21:40 for sixth quickest and Kaydee Swartz and a 22:34 for Central Decatur for ninth place.

Clarke, CD at EBF

EDDYVILLE – Clarke ran at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont Thursday, with the girls placing fourth among eight teams with 156 points.

The Central Decatur girls were also present, placing fifth with a score of 159.

Donaldson posted the fastest time for the Clarke girls, running a 22:10.37 for fourth fastest.

Clarke’s Kaydee Swartz was the seventh fastest in the pack, running a 22:33.71. Harrisen Bevan was 13th, running a 23:33.01.

Isa Cote and Lauren Saxton were 15th and 16th, respectively, running a 23:35.96 and 23:38.38 clip.

Clarke’s Destiny Ashby was 22nd with a time of 24:22.90.

The Central Decatur boys scored 95 points and the Clarke boys scored 230 points.

Gillis was the fourth fastest in the boys meet with a time of 17:15.49 and Swartz was not far behind, running a 17:35.77.

Domina led Clarke’s boys team with a time of 19:59.84 for 26th quickest. Cavanzon was 28th with a time of 20:1582 for the Indians.

I-35 at ADM

ADEL – The Interstate 35 boys raced at ADM last Tuesday, placing ninth in the team standings with a score of 232.

Wyatt Fitzgerald placed 18th, running as the fastest Roadrunner with a time of 19:13.

Mason Maiers was the next Roadrunner across the line, running a 20:13 for 33rd quickest.

The I-35 girls did not register a team score, but had a top-10 finish with Goering running a 22:20.03 for ninth place.

Bussanmas placed 30th with a time of 23:58.93.

West Central Valley Classic

REDFIELD – Interstate 35 raced at the West Central Valley Classic last Thursday with the boys placing fifth in overall team points.

The girls did not register a score due to not fielding enough runners for a point-eligible team.

On the girls side, Goering placed fourth in the field of 76 with a time of 21:42.52.

Bussanmus rounded out the top-10 finishers by clocking the quickest time among freshmen. She ran a 24:22.92 to open the season.

Interstate 35’s final runner to finish was Josephine Wearmouth, who ran a 27:58.33 for 31st.

Fitzgerald placed 10th for I-35, running a 19:13.87 time and Maiers ran a 19:47.60, the second fastest among freshmen.

Wayne Invite

CORYDON – Central Decatur and Clarke ran at the Wayne Cross Country Invite Thursday afternoon, with Central Decatur's boys and girls team placing in the top-five

The Cardinal boys placed third with an overall time of 1:35.44 and the CD girls placed fourth with an overall time of 2:15:11. The Clarke boys were 10th and the Clarke girls did not register any team points.

The Central Decatur boys’ best finisher was Gillis at fourth overall, running a time of 17:57.

Gillis was the fastest sophomore on the course by nearly a full 60 seconds. The Cardinals’ Tate Swartz was the quickest freshman, running a 18:44 for eighth overall.

Oesch was also quick amongst the freshman, running the second fastest time among freshman runners. He was 14th overall with a 19:16 time.

Cavanzon ran a 20:51 as Clarke’s fastest runner, a time that placed time 36th overall.

Domina and Cal Lundquist were step-for-step, running a 22:00 and a 22:02, respectively. Domina placed 50th and Lundquist finished 51st overall.

On the girls side, Central Decatur had top runners Swartz and Bevan place back-to-back at 17th and 18th overall. Swartz ran a 25:07 and Bevan ran a 25:08.

Clarke had a top-10 finish from Donaldson, running a 23:20 for ninth fastest. Ashby ran for a 22nd place time, finishing in 25:44.
