Area football brief: Interstate 35 wins season opener over Central Decatur

TRURO – Interstate 35 came out on top of Central Decatur Friday night in a 34-6 win to open the season.

The Roadrunners’ Joey Bregar went 6-for-11 with 161 yards passing and three touchdowns. He had a 91-yard passing score to Dustin George for the longest score of the game.

The Roadrunners used a mix of running backs to their benefit, giving the ball to Jack Smith 17 times for 98 yards. Logan Cassady got the ball eight times, rushing for the game leading 103 yards with a score.

Cassady also had four tackles. Bregar led the team in solo tackles with six, assisting five.

For the Cardinals, Cole Pederson struggled under center, completing half of his passes for 124 yards on 38 attempts. He was intercepted twice – once by I-35’s Dustin George and Carter Bussanmas.

In relief of Pederson, Matthew Boothe passed for 108 yards on two attempts and one touchdown.

Dakota Reed caught five passes for 100 yards and once receiving touchdown, a 91-yard score from Boothe.

TJ Fallis had six solo tackles. Reed and Pederson had eight and nine tackles, respectively.

Brogan Bundt had two solo sacks.
