July police report

The department was requested to stand-by a land auction that was taking place in town. The land being auctioned was Heemstra land and the auctioneer was afraid of high tensions even after all this time. Everything went smoothly.

We assisted Leon PD with an officer involved shooting that occurred in Leon. Our officer provided backup to the involved officer as well as locating witnesses, looking for evidence and standing by until the DCI arrived.

Nearly the entire department worked the 4th of July parade which appeared to be yet another success. If you didn’t know, it takes 8 out of the 11 of us to provide intersection coverage for the parade. This equated to quite the contribution on behalf of the city to pay at holiday rate overtime for this event. It appeared the crowd was the same size as in past years as did the parade. I lasted exactly one hour.

We responded to a call of a displayed handgun at a local business. The offender was gone upon arrival. However, the complainant gave a very in-depth vehicle description. Officers tried to stop it and it took off. Eventually the driver stopped by New Virginia.

Statistically officers responded to 496 calls for service which equates to 16 per day, every day. From January 1- July 31 we are at an average of 15 calls per day. Officers also issued 27 citations, arrested 36 people on 56 separate charges.
