I-35 bounces back, Central Decatur drops third straight

URBANDALE – The I-35 Roadrunners beat Des Moines Moines Christian 10-3 Monday night.

The Roadrunners were led in the circle by eighth grader Katie Murphy, pitching seven innings while allowing three runs off nine hits.

Summer Pasutti went 2-for-3 in the win, crushing two solo homers. She also walked once.

Lilly Miller also had two homers in the contest, going 3-4 with four runs driven in. Josie McCuddin also homered in the contest, making it a five homer day for the Roadrunners.

Madrid 3, Interstate 35 2

TRURO – The Roadrunners fell to Madrid Thursday, falling to the Tigers 3-2 in game two of a doubleheader.

A run in the seventh inning pulled I-35 back to a one-run game, but Madrid shut the door on the Roadrunners to secure the win in the bottom of the seventh.

Kate Stanley went 2-3 in the loss. She was the only Roadrunner to tally multiple hits.

Pasutti and Sienna Vodraska scored the two runs for I-35.

In game one the Roadrunners made quick work of the Tigers, taking down Madrid 11-1 in five innings.

I-35 scored 11 unanswered runs over the first three innings of play before the Tigers put one on the board before the game was called due to the 10-run rule.

Gracie McCuddin homered in the win, going 1-2 with two RBIs. Josie McCuddin went 2-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Murphy picked up the winning decision, going three innings while striking out three. She allowed one hit.

Murray 3, Central Decatur 2 (9)

LEON – The Cardinals and Mustangs took it to extra innings Monday night with the Mustangs taking it 3-2.

A two-run bottom of the fifth evened it up for the Cardinals, but nobody was able to break the 2-2 tie through the seventh inning.

A double into left field off the bat of Kendra Boles scored Bailey Frederick in the top of the ninth to break the tie. Murray’s ace in Kayla Wookey held off the Cardinals in the bottom of the ninth, pitching a scoreless half inning to secure Murray’s sixth consecutive win.

“It was a well pitched game for both teams,” said Murray head coach Danny Jansen. “Kayla Wookey was outstanding. She allowed just 3 hits. ... Her control was outstanding tonight.”

Wookey struck out 17 to go with the three hits allowed. Central Decatur’s Kylee Rockhold struck out five and walked one, allowing five hits over the extra inning affair.

Eily Hall went 2-3 for the Cardinals. Kelli Romero hit a solo homer for Murray in the first inning for her only hit.

Central Decatur 13, St. Albert 2

Lewis Central 9, Central Decatur 8

COUNCIL BLUFFS – The Cardinals took part in tournament play Saturday, playing three over the course of Saturday in Council Bluffs.

Of the three games, CD came away with a victory over St. Albert 13-2.

Carlee Hamilton had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Rockhold and Riley Bell had two hits each. Both homered and had three RBI in the win also.

Carleigh O’Dell swiped five bags for CD in the first game.

Central Decatur was unable to get away with wins over Sidney and Lewis Central, falling to both teams 9-4 and 9-8, respectively.

Rockhold and Hall had two hits each over Sidney. Hamilton and Rockhold doubled as well.

Against Lewis Central, a lone run in the seventh inning was the decider as Lewis Central scored eight over the last three innings of play to sneak one away from Central Decatur.

Maizee Lindsey went 3-4 at the dish, hitting a triple in the loss. Rockhold, Bell and Alaina Applegate each doubled. Bell drove in three runs.

Mya Applegate had a perfect 3-3 day, scoring three times and tripling.

Central Decatur 13, Southwest Valley 2 (5)

LEON – The Cardinals took it to Pride of Iowa foe Southwest Valley Friday night, wining 13-2.

The Cardinals stole seven bases and walked seven times en route to the win in five innings.

Bell pitched all five, allowing one earned run and five hits. She struck out six, walking none. She also had a 3-4 day at the plate, scoring twice while driving in three RBIs.

Hamilton scored four times, going 2-2 at the plate. She also walked twice and stole two bags.

The Cardinals 3-6 batters of Rockhold, Bell, Hall and Alaina Applegate for 11 RBIs in the win.

Martensdale-St. Marys 7, Central Decatur 2

LEON – CD lost to Martensdale-St. Marys Thursday night by a 7-2 final.

The Cardinals trailed early to Martensdale-St. Marys after allowing three runs in the top of the first, putting CD in a tough position to come back and take the lead.

The tandem of Bell and Rockhold in the circle combined for 11 strikeouts in the loss. They allowed four hits between themselves.

Hamilton, Rockhold and Hall had a multi-hit day for CD. Rockhold and Hall had two doubles and Hamilton scored once.
