Clarke bests Davis County twice over winning week

Clarke softball put up four runs in the second inning behind an Audrey Kindred two-run single after two bases loaded walks to take a 5-1 lead early over Davis County last Wednesday.

The Mustangs battled back and took a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning, but the Lady Indians used a three-run response of their own in the fourth to jump back in front for good in a 10-7 win.

Kindred ended the day 2-for-3 with three RBIs at the plate while Kaitlyn Halsband also knocked in three RBIs with one swing of the bat.

Halsband launched a three-run homer in the fourth that turned the tide for Clarke.

Kiaya Dunbar, Emma Bolton and Ashlynn Oehlert all drove in a run each as Bolton recorded three hits and Oehlert slapped two.

Clarke finished the game with 12 hits and six walks drawn and the lineup received plenty of praise from its head coach.

“It was a real team effort. ... It was an all-around team effort,” said Clarke head coach Tricia Bolton.

In the circle, Alexis Watson stayed strong after allowing some early runs and kept Davis County to one run over the final three innings to help the Lady Indians secure the win.

“Alexis came over to me in the fourth inning and said, ‘it’s not there coach. I’m not hitting my spots,’” said Tricia Bolton. “I told her were going one more inning ... She came out and played with some guts after that. ... She’s a pretty mentally tough kid.”

Watson recorded six strikeouts while allowing eight hits before picking up the winning decision.

The win helped complete a 5-1 week for the Lady Indians.

“The team energy is incredible. They believe in the process,” said Tricia Bolton.

Ankeny 7, Clarke 4

The top of the Lady Indians lineup put together eight of its 10 hits last Thursday, but Ankeny got the last laugh with a 7-4 win.

Clarke hit four doubles off the bats of Sadie Marker, Bolton, Sarah Davis and Halsband.

Davis and Dunbar each were credited with two RBIs in the loss.

Hailee Fry and Bolton combined for two strikeouts in seven innings of work in the circle for the Lady Indians.

Clarke 10, Centerville 5

CENTERVILLE – Clarke plated a run in every inning but the second Friday in a 10-5 winning affair over Centerville.

Oehlert went 3-5 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored in the victory while Taylor Kartchner also smacked two hits, including a triple.
