Max Faulkner

Osceola

Max Leonne Faulkner, son of Floyd Faulkner and Hazel Faulkner, was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Hamilton County, and passed from this life Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola at 88 years of age.

Max grew up on a farm in Hamilton County near Vincent. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School and then moved to Gowrie, where he married Sharon Maybe in 1950. Max was drafted into the Army in January of 1952 and served as a medic in Korea at the 38th parallel. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal in December of 1953. Max returned to Gowrie and two sons blessed his family. He owned his own plumbing business, Faulkner Plumbing, until selling out in 1973.

Max married Marjorie Wood Duvall on May 13, 1975, at the Methodist Church in West Des Moines and they moved their family to Osceola in 1979. Max began building houses with his sons. Max built several homes throughout Osceola.

Max was a member of American Legion in both the Gowrie and Osceola Posts. He was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps, performing in competitions in Florida. He was a volunteer fireman in Gowrie, and in Osceola, was a member of Osceola Country Club and Osceola United Methodist Church. During the time Marjorie was on the board of The Village child care center, Max volunteered to be the handyman and take care of general upkeep.

Max retired at the age of 58 because of a heart condition. He enjoyed helping take care of his granddaughters and was able to play golf daily. He enjoyed traveling with Marjorie and spending time with his grandchildren. Max loved life and will be missed by his family.

Those relatives who preceded Max in death were his parents, Floyd and Hazel Faulkner; sisters, Bethene Mattingly and her husband Bernard and Dorothy Dahgran and her husband Lyle; and brother Roger Faulkner.

Max leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 44 years, Marjorie Faulkner of Osceola; son Brian (Teri) Faulkner of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; son Perry Faulkner of Osceola; daughter Debra (Charlie) Duvall of Fort Meyers, Florida; son Steven (Diane) Duvall and their children Andrea, Morgan and Alec of Rogers, Minnesota; daughter Dixie (Ted) Miller and their children, Mia and Jane of Indian Hills, Colorado; granddaughter Brooke Faulkner of Lakewood, Colorado; granddaughter Dru (Torrey) Mitchell and great-granddaughter Lenni of Cape Coral, Florida; brother Lyle Faulkner of Webster City; sister-in-law Marilyn Faulkner of Iowa Falls; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola with Pastor Shane Simpson officiating. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 17, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery and Mausoleum.
