Ronald Parmer

Osceola

Ronald Dean Parmer of Osceola passed away peacefully Thursday, May 30, 2019, at The Circle of Life Hospice and Legacy Lodge in Chariton. He was born May 17, 1934, to Clarence Garfield “Dick” and Pauline Juanita (Glazebrook) Parmer.

Ron married Jainey Jo Ann Heston on July 17, 1954. They were blessed with the birth of four children. Ron had a love for horses. He trained and worked teams when he was young. Then, he had Ron’s Cowboy Service in Van Wert. He was very proud the last time he rode at the age of 81.

Ron enjoyed the outdoors. He took long rides through the country, often visiting the Amish and taking the children wooden toys he had made for them in his workshop.

Ron’s door was always open for family, friends and neighbors, always with a pot of coffee and lots of stories to share. If you asked him what he liked to do best, his answer was always “have company!”

Ron gave back to his community, volunteering almost daily at Cross Ministries in Osceola. He loved being there, spending time with his daughter Ronda and visiting with everyone who came in with a donation. He will be greatly missed.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife Jo Ann Parmer; his infant son Rickey Dean; grandson Todd Wengryn; parents, Dick and Pauline Parmer; stepmother Nadine Parmer; and sister Twyla Teaters.

Ron is survived by his children, Perry (Kay) Parmer of Woodburn, Ronda Parmer of Osceola and Shiela (David “Pud”) Buckingham of Weldon; his siblings, Ruth Krutsinger of Chariton, Donna and Ernie Parmer of Humeston and Jerry (Barb) Parmer of Van Wert; a wealth of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Ron will be laid to rest in Van Wert Cemetery in Van Wert. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life gathering from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30, at Van Wert Community Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Circle of Life Hospice and Legacy Lodge, 220 Northwestern Ave., Chariton, IA 50049.
