Clarke softball wins opener; loses to solid ADM squad

CHARITON – The Lady Indians softball season opened up with a bang as Clarke put together a complete game, 8-0 win over Chariton May 22.

The top of the Clarke lineup did a ton of damage as the opening four hitters posted 12 hits over the contest.

Ashlynn Oehlert had the most productive day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to go along with a stolen base.

Emma Bolton and Kiaya Dunbar each went 3-5 and drove in the other seven runs for the Lady Indians in the win.

Leadoff hitter Sadie Marker finished the contest 2-3 with a walk, a double and two runs scored.

In the circle, Alexis Watson started the season with a win, throwing a complete seven innings while allowing just two hits and striking out eight opposing batters. Watson also drew three walks when batting.

Clarke put together its home opener against the No. 1 team in Class 4A as ADM won the contest 11-1 in five innings.

The Lady Indians mustered three hits at the plate, two of which were doubles from Oehlert and Kaitlyn Halsband.

Bolton drove in the lone Clarke run in the third inning.

Hailee Fry went 4 2/3 innings in the circle for the Lady Indians, posting two strikeouts while allowing three walks and 10 hits.

Jayden Miller closed out the final two outs before ADM ended the contest with its 11th run.
