Charles Gorsline

Leon

Charles “Chuck” Benton Gorsline, son of Louis Milton and Helen Naomi (Simms) Gorsline, was born June 12, 1929, in Stroy Hospital in Osceola, and passed from this life Sunday, May 5, 2019, surrounded by his family at his home in rural Decatur County at 89 years of age.

Chuck graduated from Osceola High School in 1948, where he participated in football and received the EK Jones Sportsmanship Trophy during his senior year. He worked a short time for the railroad, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Korean War. During his service, he was united in marriage to Daleth Glenn on Dec. 26, 1951, and four children blessed this union. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Clarke and Decatur counties where he farmed and raised his family near Weldon from 1956 until he bought a farm west of Van Wert in 1965.

Active in Farm Bureau, he served as secretary and vice president. He was elected to the Farm Service Board of Humeston and served as the secretary until the plant closed. He was elected to the REC Board in 1992 and served for nine years.

Chuck farmed and raised Angus cows, and in 2001, he decided to retire and sold all his land except for 40 acres and his out buildings. Chuck enjoyed nature, being outdoors and bird watching. He loved to garden and give away produce to family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing, and his dogs went with him everywhere. Chuck had five antique Allis Chalmers to enjoy and take on tractor rides. He belonged to the American Legion David-Pence Post No. 69, helping with many honor guards at various services in the community. Chuck entered the Masonic Lodge in Weldon in 1974, and transferred to the Osceola Lodge when Weldon closed. He was a master in both lodges.

Those relatives who preceded Chuck in death were his daughter Diana Linn Gorsline, son Ricky Lane Gorsline, daughter-in-law Connie Gorsline, grandchild Jessica Gorsline, father Louis Milton Gorsline and mother Helen Naomi Gorsline.

Chuck leaves to cherish his memory his wife Daleth Gorsline of Leon; daughter Terrie (Larry) McBroom of Weldon; son Steve (Wendy Perlowski) Gorsline of Lucas; grandchildren, Tracie (Mark) Pearce of Leon, Travis (Sarah) McBroom of Decatur City, Tina (Ransom Whitham) Ward of Osceola, Danny (Lecy) Gorsline of Weldon and Sara (Chris) Adams of Ankeny; great-grandchildren, Erin McBroom, Briana Gorsline, Jaelyn Gorsline, Kailee Gorsline and Nora Ward; brother David (Wanda) Gorsline of Osceola; along with other relatives and many friends.
