Daniel Huston Foster, 92, of Osceola died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Butch Black officiating. Online condolences may be left at www.kalefuneralhome.com.
Daniel Huston Foster, son of Lyle Huston Foster and Della Pauline Gibson, was born Feb. 25, 1924, at Shively Hospital in Osceola. Dan grew up in Osceola and was educated in and graduated from Osceola schools. After graduating from school, he enlisted in the Army and was sent to several camps and schools where he was trained in engineering, and ultimately, as a flight officer.
On Sept. 13, 1943, Dan married Marilyn Jeanne Lewis in Spokane, Washington. After he was discharged, Dan returned to Osceola and worked as a surveyor until he was selected to join the Iowa Highway Patrol. His first post was Atlantic, followed by Greenfield, Des Moines, Indianola and finally, a return to Osceola in 1966 as the new commander of Post 2. He was the first pilot for the Air Wing. Dan served for 34 years, retiring in 1981.
Dan was a member of American Legion for more than 70 years.
Dan is survived by his wife of 75 years, Marilyn; daughter Mary (Mike) Dodson; grandchildren, Sean Dodson, Andrea Foster of Noblesville, Indiana, and Richard (Rachel) Foster of San Francisco, California; great-grandsons, Nathan and Christopher of Indiana; sister Virginia Cantrell of Billings, Montana; brother Paul (Dorothy) Foster; sister-in-law Alice Fleming of Nuevo, California; and several nephews, nieces, cousins and friends throughout the country.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; son David; father-in-law H.H.’Pete’ Lewis; mother-in-law Hazel Lewis; brothers-in law, Dr. George Lewis and Wayne Fleming; and sisters-in-law, Kathie Weaklend and Norma Lewis.
