Clarke County audit

Hunt & Associates, P.C., Certified Public Accountants, Friday released an audit report on Clarke County, Iowa.

The County had local tax revenue of $17,672,444 for the year ended June 30, 2018, which included $1,561,070 in tax credits and replacements from the state and $229,518 in gaming tax. The County forwarded $12,366,181 of the local tax revenue to the townships, school districts, cities and other taxing bodies in the County.

The County retained $5,306,263 of local tax revenue to finance County operations, a 6.0 percent increase from the prior year. Other revenue included charges for services of $897,474, operating grants, contributions, and restricted interest of $3,169,063, capital grants and contributions of $1,718,692, unrestricted investment earnings of $47,810 and other general revenues of $28,531.

Expenses for County operations totaled $9,355,884, a 3.7 percent increase from the prior year. Expenses included $3,901,261 for roads and transportation, $2,136,419 for public safety and legal services, and $1,246,830 for administration.
