Atwood picks Northwest Missouri State

Central Decatur guard picks basketball over track

Central Decatur’s Emma Atwood announced her commitment to Northwest Missouri State on twitter Wednesday evening.

The Cardinals standout finished her high school basketball career with an all-time record of 95-5, winning the Pride of Iowa conference and playing in the state tournament four consecutive times.

Atwood was selected to second team all-state in 2A basketball this season and was unanimously selected to the all-conference Pride of Iowa team. She also scored her 1,000 career point at Central Decatur this season in just the fourth game of the season.

In her senior season Atwood posted an even 500 points (20.8 PPG) while shooting 59.5 percent from the field, both leading her team. She grabbed 211 rebounds and assisted 95 scores, which were also the team high.

Atwood had spent this past week deciding on whether or not to run track or play basketball at the collegiate level, levying her opportunity with running track at University of Omaha.

Atwood will join a Bearcat program that is bringing in a strong freshmen class, with Atwood being the sixth commitment so far.

Among the incoming recruiting class for Northwest Missouri State is Kayla Chapman of Treynor.

The semifinal opponent posted 15.2 points per game in her senior campaign, scoring nine in the semifinal against Central Decatur. Her Treynor squad defeated Grundy Center for the 2A state title.

As of Tuesday, Atwood has not decided on an official signing day for her letter of intent.
