Shirley Pauline Marker, 90 of Indianola died Sunday, Feb.10, 2019, at Vintage Hills Retirement Community in Indianola.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola, with the Rev. Keith Smith officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 14, at the funeral home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Osceola Eagles Auxiliary No. 3495. Shirley Pauline Marker, daughter of Clarence Andrew Stephenson and Mildred Clara (Simmons) Stephenson, was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Osceola. Shirley grew up in Clarke County, where she attended school.
On May 7, 1946, she married Donald Keith Garner in Lawrence, Kansas. Shirley and Donald lived in Clarke County until 1959, when they moved to Warren County and purchased a farm. In 1970, Donald died.
In October 1972, Shirley married William Marker of Kansas City, Kansas. They lived in Kansas until December 1988, when they returned to Osceola. William died April 17, 1989. Shirley worked many years as a waitress and hostess, serving and meeting people. While in Kansas, she worked for Transworld Airlines for 13 years, retiring in 1988.
After returning to Osceola, she was a member of Eagles Auxiliary and waited tables for many years.
Shirley is survived by her children, Donnie (Lorraine) Garner of Des Moines, Gary (Ann) Garner of Liberty Center, Terry (Jeanette) Garner of New Virginia, Sandy (Jim) Vicroy of New Virginia, Tami (Rick) DeGrave-Drake of Tonganoxie, Kansas, and Roland (Terry) Garner of Osceola; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her first husband Donald Keith Garner; second husband William Marker; parents, Clarence and Mildred Clara Stephenson; brothers, Ronald and Eldon Stephenson and two brothers-in-infancy; sister Donna McDaniel; daughter-in-law Carole Renaud; son-in-law Mike DeGrave; sisters-in-law, Lois Stephenson and Marie Stephenson; and brother-in-law Russell McDaniel.
