Leona Wolfe

Osceola

Leona Irene Wolfe, daughter of Floyd Henry Spellerberg and Helen Naomi (McNichols) Spellerberg, was born Oct. 29, 1926, in Madison Township in Clarke County, Iowa. She passed from this life surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, at Homestead Assisted Living in Osceola at 92 years of age.

Leona graduated from Murray High School in 1945, and then worked for Equitable of Iowa. Leona was united in marriage to Elva Taylor Wolfe on March 14, 1948, at her parent’s home in Madison Township in Clarke County. They were blessed with three children, Rollin (Jim), Janice and Julia. Leona and Elva moved to Osceola in December of 1976. Leona then worked for Dr. Adams in Osceola.

Leona loved playing bridge and was a member of several Osceola bridge clubs. She was a member of Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 3495 in Osceola and Murray United Methodist Church.

Leona loved her family and spending time together. She was a great cook and loved preparing large meals for her family get-togethers. Leona enjoyed painting, sewing, crocheting, quilting and reading. She always enjoyed planting her flower and vegetable gardens and bird watching. Leona and Elva enjoyed playing “Hand and Foot” with many friends in town and while spending winters in Sierra Vista, Arizona. She will be missed by many.

Those relatives who preceded Leona in death were her parents, Floyd and Helen Spellerberg; brother Richard Spellerberg; sister Betty Porterfield and grandson Joshua Wolfe.

Leona leaves to cherish her memory her husband Elva Wolfe of Osceola; son Jim (Jennifer) Wolfe of Hereford, Arizona; daughters, Janice (Keith) Reynolds of St. Charles and Julia (Bill) Kerns of Murray; grandchildren, Jacob (Amanda) Wolfe of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Jeremy (Colleen) Wolfe of Hereford, Arizona, Wendy (Joe) Waterbury of Iowa City, Charlie (Kelsey) Grout of Martensdale, Kim (Wesley) Griffin of Grand River and Jackie Kerns (Shawn Patton) of Grand River; step-grandchild Damon Reynolds of Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Rhyannon Wolfe, Emma and Zachary Wolfe, Thomas Waterbury, Hannah, Whitney and Avary Grout, Mackenna Skroh, Wyatt and Kate Patton and Gus and Grace Griffin; sister-in-law Jean Spellerberg of Richfield, Minnesota; three nephews, Greg Porterfield, T. J. (Mary Jane) Porterfield and Donald (Holly) Spellerberg; niece Melanie Spellerberg; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., in Osceola with Pastor Marty Burgus officiating. Interment of her cremains will be in Murray Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Homestead Assisted Living or EveryStep Hospice in Osceola.
