Girls basketball roundup: Clarke snags a win

Clarke 52, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 44

EDDYVILLE – The Clarke Lady Indians halted their losing streak Jan. 15 with a 52-44 win over E-B-F on the road.

Sarah Davis had a team-high 19 points for the Lady Indians in the win while Des Stubbe added 17.

Davis also led Clarke’s defensive efforts with seven steals as the Lady Indians as a whole swiped 20 balls.

Ashlynn Oehlert and Megan Linskens each contributed eight points for Clarke.

Mount Ayr 80, Murray 41

MURRAY – Mount Ayr used a big second half to skate past Murray Jan. 14 80-41.

The Raiderettes outscored the Lady Mustangs 47-19 in the second half, led mainly by Kierston Klommhaus’ 22 points.

Mount Ayr’s defense continued to cause problems, forcing 26 steals.

Sam Stewart had seven of those steals and scored 16 points for Mount Ayr in the win.

Bre Klein led the Lady Mustangs’ scoring effort with 14 points. Ally Waske had eight points and six rebounds in the loss.

Murray 46, Moulton-Udell 34

MOULTON – The Lady Mustangs grabbed a Bluegrass Conference tournament quarterfinal win Monday, defeating Moulton-Udell 46-34.

Klein posted half of Murray’s points as her 23-point performance carried the Lady Mustangs to a win.

Ally Waske contributed 10 points and eight rebounds for Murray in the win. Bailey Frederick and Britta Callstrom each scored five points.

“Bre had another good night offensively this evening, and Ally also had a good night.We were able to hold them to just two points in the second quarter,” said Murray head coach Jerry Shields.

Central Decatur 68, Nodaway Valley 43

LEON – The Class 2A No. 3 Central Decatur Cardinals continued to roll Thursday with a 68-43 win over Nodaway Valley.

Abbie Ridgway, Alli Masters and Emma Atwood each posted double-digit performances in the win as Ridgway had 17 points, Masters posted 13 and Atwood scored 14.

Atwood finished the contest with a triple double grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists in the victory.

Central Decatur 70, Van Meter 55

LEON – Masters and Atwood led the way for Central Decatur Monday in a 70-55 win over Van Meter.

Masters had 21 points for the Cardinals while Atwood scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and three assists.

Erica Kauzlarich and Alaina Applegate both had nice nights as well with nine and eight points, respectively.

The Cardinals also grabbed 18 offensive rebounds to help propel them to a win.

Des Moines Christian 64, Interstate 35 18

URBANDALE – Class 3A No. 6 Des Moines Christian was too much for Interstate 35 girls basketball Jan. 15, winning by a 64-18 final.

Jaliyah White led the Roadrunners with seven points as I-35 couldn’t put together a double-digit quarter.

Interstate 35 56, Grand View Christian 38

DES MOINES – The Roadrunners picked up their fifth win of the season Monday with a 56-38 victory over Grand View Christian.
