DES MOINES – State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald awarded a $529 College Savings Iowa account today to 17 year old Riley Domina. Riley was chosen to receive the award after his mother, Jill, entered him for the giveaway as part of the College Savings Iowa 20 Year Celebration Giveaway.
“With the cost of higher education rising every year, saving for future education is not an easy task these days,” stated Fitzgerald. “Our goal for College Savings Iowa is to encourage families to start saving early for their loved one’s higher educational expenses. Saving ahead of time can reduce a family’s need to borrow to cover educational expenses, which can help them and their child get through school with less debt.”
College Savings Iowa attended various events across the state this past September and October to celebrate 20 years of helping families save for a brighter future. While learning about the benefits of College Savings Iowa, families were also encouraged to register for the 20 Year Celebration Giveaway. Riley, who was randomly selected from over 4,700 entrants, will be able to use the $529 to help pay for tuition, books, room and board at any qualifying institution when the time comes for higher education.
College Savings Iowa is now celebrating the holiday season with another giveaway. All Iowa families with a child or grandchild under 18 years old can visit Iowa529Contest.com to register for their chance to win a $1,000 College Savings Iowa giveaway account. This giveaway is open from December 1 through December 31and a current College Savings Iowa account is not required to enter.
