Area volleyball roundup: Murray swipes two sweeps

MELCHER-DALLAS — Murray handled its business in three sets, defeating Melcher-Dallas 25-20, 25-6, 25-18 on Tuesday.

Twila Barber and Britta Callstrom notched seven assists each.

Bre Klein’s eight digs and seven kills were both tops for Murray.

Kendra Boles added six kills, Kinzee Eggers had three, as did Callstrom.

Emma Decker added six digs. Decker was 18-18 on serves and Barber was 18-19.

Thursday, Sept. 13

Diagonal 0

MURRAY — The Lady Mustangs were near perfect and put away easy points in a three-set home victory Thursday over Diagonal, 25-16, 25-9, 25-13.

Klein’s 10 kills were tops for Murray, while Barber registered 10 assists.

Klein had five digs and Bailey Frederick added four for Murray. Seven Lady Mustangs had perfect serving nights, with Callstrom going 13-13 and Klein going 11-11.

Murray moved to 5-2 with the win and 2-1 in Bluegrass Conference play.

Interstate 35

volleyball update

The Roadrunners own a 1-15 record with their first win of the season coming Monday, Sept. 10 at Martensdale-St. Marys, 25-15, 21-25, 15-11.

Ainsley Maske had six kills and seven digs in that win and Jaylen Bush had seven assists.

Zoey Hutton was 16-17 on serves and Maske was 13-15.

Maske leads I-35 with 35 kills this season.

Olivia Carlson has been the Roadrunners’ best server and is 81-82 on serves this year.

Reanna Hubbard has 28 kills and Adrianna Camp has 25.

Bush’s 80 assists lead I-35. Carlson’s 71 digs lead the Roadrunners.

Hubbard is the squad’s leader with 27 block assists and seven solo blocks.

I-35 is in its inaugural season in the West Central Conference.

Central Decatur volleyball update

The Cardinal volleyball team owns an 8-3 record and a 2-1 record in the Pride of Iowa.

Emma Atwood has missed several matches due to injury, but still leads the squad with 114 kills. That number is good for third in the Pride of Iowa. Erica Kauzlarich has helped pick up the slack hitting and owns 96 kills.

Kauzlarich with her 149-164 serving mark (.909 percent) and Alliey Boswell with her 101-110 mark (.918 rate) are the team’s serving leaders.

Boswell leads the Cards with 178 digs, which is third in the POI.

Maizee Lindsey also leads the team and is third in the Pride of Iowa, with 236 assists.

Alaina Applegate leads CD with 16 block assists and eight solo blocks.
