Loretta Pearl Carper, 88, of Osceola died Friday, Aug. 3, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Truro.
Loretta Pearl Carper, daughter of AB (Shorty) Kluht and Pearlia (Daub) Kluht, was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Osceola. Loretta attended school in Murray. Loretta graduated in 1947, and entered UNI that fall.
In the spring of 1950, Loretta married Foryst Keith (Casey) Richardson. They moved to California, and in 1958, moved back to Murray. Casey and Loretta divorced in 1962. She decided to go back to school, and spent one year at Drake and transferred her credits to Graceland, where she received her teaching degree. In the fall of 1963, she started teaching kindergarten in Osceola.
On Aug. 12, 1972, Loretta married Darrell (Butch) Carper. Loretta worked as a teacher for 10 years. Darrell took a job in Des Moines building, then managing an apartment complex. They became managers of Christian Conference Center in Newton, and they stayed 13 years before retiring to Osceola. Darrell died in April of 1997.
Loretta was committed to her church, singing in the choir and being the church organist, until she had to give it up for health reasons. She was involved in CWF, quilting, First Christian Church Board and Democratic Party, and active in 4H.
Loretta is survived by her children, Randi Perez of Windsor Heights, Becky (Richard) Houghtaling of Truro, Dan (Ellie) Richardson of Newton and Julie Denman of DeSoto; step-children, Kathy Carper of Libby, Missouri, Deb (Brian) Lukoszyk of Warrenton, Oregon, Dana Carper of Kansas, and Markelle Chandler of Libby, Montana; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Bill (Norma) Carper of Murray; sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Rich) Wilson of Winterset, Jeanette Carper and Connie Carper; as well as other relatives and many friends.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents; husband Darrell (Butch); brothers-in-law, Robert (Casey) Carper, Eldon (Bud) Carper and Leland (Py) Carper; sister-in-law Marjorie Carper; half brother Venard Kluht; granddaughter Heather McClarey and son-in-law Manny Perez.
