Arthur M. “Skip” Landis, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Weldon, to the late Lucia M. (Howell) and Arthur M. Landis Sr. He graduated from Weldon High School in 1955, and joined the U.S. Air Force in October 1955, and was honorably discharged in October of 1959, as an Airman Second Class.
Skip was the manager for Silver Street Superette for 21 years, then five years at Westfield Coatings, and retired in 1999 after 15 years as dispatcher for the Southwick Police Department. Skip was a communicant of St. Peters and St. Casmirs Church for 61 years, where he volunteered as a helper on many parish celebrations. He and his wife MaryLou have a place in Wells, Maine, where they have spent 37 years in the summer seasons.
He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Red Sox, Bruins, UConn girls basketball, and of course, the Iowa Hawkeyes and Cyclones. His favorite thing after he retired was to sit in his beach chair at the Wells jetty watching the ocean. He loved playing golf with his buddies in the Bear’s Den Golf League. Many a day around 4 p.m., you could see him wander down to the pool for happy hour, where he and his pals would discuss and solve the world’s problems. He celebrated his four grandchildren, their accomplishments in life and their respect for others. He will be surely missed by all of us.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Louise (Monko) Landis; his children, Torey L. Benoit and Tim Mulligan of Woodside, California, Robert D. Landis and his wife Rhonda of Granville and Arthur M.
