Postseason roundup: I-35, CD seasons end

Baseball

Centerville 5, Interstate 35 4

CENTERVILLE – Interstate 35’s season came to a close Friday after Centerville plated a run in the bottom of the sixth to push the Big Red past the Roadrunners 5-4 in the Class 2A District 11 final.

Darian Brown took the loss on the mound while giving up seven hits, striking out five and walking just three batters.

Jake Sheeder crushed his first home run of the season while driving in two runs in the contest. Sheeder also stole a base and crossed the plate twice in the loss.

Gideon Smith, Brayden Egli and Mason Cassady each recorded a hit apiece for the Roadrunners. Cassady crossed the plate twice for I-35’s other two runs and managed to swipe two bases.

The loss ends Interstate 35’s season with a 15-11 record. The Roadrunners will lose seven seniors, including Brown, Egli, Smith, Spencer Pontolilo, Trevor Thornburgh, Jake Hutton and Cole Stewart.

Southeast Warren 3, Central Decatur 2

MILO – After falling behind 3-0 in the first two innings, Central Decatur pieced together a minor comeback, but ultimately fell to Southeast Warren 3-2 in the Class 1A District 11 final Saturday.

Tyler Davis drove in one of the Cardinals’ two runs with a solo home run, his fifth long ball of the season.

Ricky Marcus drove in Carter Boothe for the other CD run. Boothe registered two hits and drew a walk, while Marcus’s’ RBI was hit lone hit of the contest.

Marcus pitched six strong innings on the mound in which he allowed eight hits, three runs (one earned) and struck out four in 109 pitches.

The loss ends Central Decatur’s season with a 20-11 record and the Cardinals will lose a handful of seniors to graduation. That list includes Rylon O’Dell, Kolten Johnson, Adam Walker, Marcus, Boothe and Davis.

Softball

Colfax-Mingo 6, Interstate 35 3

COLFAX – The Roadrunners grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning to open their Class 2A Region 4 postseason, but Colfax-Mingo rallied with six unanswered runs, taking the contest 6-3 July 2.

Kate Stanley picked up the loss in the circle, allowing six earned runs in 3 and 2/3 innings of work. She struck out two batters before being replaced by Ava Knoll in the fourth inning.

Stanley posted a 4-for-4 day at the dish and drove in a run along with smacking two doubles for I-35. Stanley finishes the year hitting a .513 average at the dish and 10 doubles.

Laynie Duff was the only other Roadrunner member to tally a multi-hit performance. Lilly Miller, Summer Pasutti, Holly Finley and Olivia Carlson also managed to get on base with a hit apiece.

I-35 will bow out with a 15-10 record and will lose seniors Keann Williamson, Cheyanne Loomis and Duff to graduation.

Wayne 12, Central Decatur 0 (3)

CORYDON – Central Decatur managed just four hits in a 12-0 loss to Wayne in the Class 1A Region 6 quarterfinal July 3.

Maizee Lindsey, Riley Bell, Kylee Rockhold and Carlee Hamilton each picked up a base knock for the Cardinals.

Rockhold allowed 12 runs in two innings of work, seven of which were earned, while taking the loss.

Central Decatur’s season ends with a 13-22 record and Alyssa Audlehelm will be the lone departing senior for graduation.

Central Decatur 5, Seymour 2

LEON – The Cardinals opened up their postseason with a 5-2 win over Seymour to kick off their Class 1 Region 6 play July 2.

Rockhold and Hallee Hamilton each drove in a run and were credited with RBIs. Hamilton also laced a double in the contest.

Riley Bell grabbed her sixth win of the season in the circle, throwing four innings of four-hit ball and giving up just two runs (one earned). Rockhold took over for Bell in the fifth and closed out the game, striking out three Seymour batters and allowing just one hit.

Jordan Proctor crossed the plate twice while Erica Kauzlarich, Mya Applegate and Carlee Hamilton each plated a run themselves.
