Clarke baseball struggles with quality opponents

Baseball

Greene County 14, Clarke 0 (5)

JEFFERSON – Greene County jumped on top of Clarke early and often in a 14-0 win Saturday, scoring runs in each of the four innings they came to the plate.

The Indians tallied three hits, but also committed three errors in the field. Conner Deutsch registered the lone extra-base hit, a double. for Clarke.

Saydel 14, Clarke 3

With 11 combined errors between the two teams, Saydel toppled Clarke 14-3 Saturday.

Saydel crossed the plate at least once in every inning with 14 hits in the contest.

Payton Winship lined two base hits for Clarke and Dalton Stubbe added the Indians’ third hit.

Centerville 6, Clarke 1

After jumping on top early with a run in the first inning, Clarke surrendered six unanswered runs, falling 6-1 Friday in the conference contest.

The Indians registered nine hits over the course of the seven inning with Winship, Matthew Stickels and Stubbe tallying multi-hit games.

Deutsch tripled and Casey Kindred drove in the lone run.

Evan Hagen took the loss on the hill giving up two earned runs in four innings of work while striking out four batters.

Chariton 10, Clarke 0

CHARITON – Clarke registered three hits in a 10-0 loss to Chariton June 13.

Winship, Stubbe and Will Smith each tallied a hit in the loss.

Taylor Henry came on in relief and threw three innings on the hill, allowing four earn runs while striking out two Charger hitters.

Softball

Clarke 16, Chariton 4 (4)

CHARITON – The Lady Indians pushed across 16 runs in a dominant performance against Chariton June 11.

Sadie Marker and Audrey Kindred both registered four RBIs while Emma Bolton knocked in three runs off of her back going 3-for-4 with three doubles. Marker also roped a home run and a double.

Hailee Fry grabbed the win in the circle, pitching two innings and giving up just three hits.

As a team, Clarke smacked seven doubled in the four-inning contest.

Clarke 13, Abraham Lincoln 5 (9)

DES MOINES – After going into extra innings, Clarke put together eight runs in the top of the ninth to emphatically solidify a 13-5 win over Des Moines, Abraham Lincoln on June 12.

Bolton smashed her second home run of the season along with two RBIs in the win. Audrey Kindred went 4-5 at the dish with three RBIs.

Kaitlyn Halsband also hit a double.

Bolton also picked up the win in the circle, throwing 6 1/3 innings and striking out four batters.

Clarke 2, Centerville 1

CENTERVILLE – Sadie Marker smacked her sixth home run of the year as Clarke snuck out a 2-1 win over Centerville Friday.

Alexis Watson quickly returned to form with a complete game four-hitter, fanning eight batters in the process of picking up the win.

Sidney Marker also hit a double in the win.

The win was the fifth-straight victory for the Lady Indians.
