Artist reception being held for artist of the month Karen Johnson

The Clarke Area Arts Council Art Wall located in the events entrance lobby of Lakeside Casino boasts an array of paintings from the latest Artist of the Month, Karen Johnson.

An artist reception will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 17, at the Lakeside Casino events entrance lobby. Johnson will be present to meet with those in attendance and talk about her pieces.

All of her paintings are for sale and 18 of them are displayed on the art wall. Two of the paintings were done in late 2017, but Johnson has painted the rest of them this year.

“I paint daily, it’s my relaxation,” said Johnson. “There’s probably 225 to 275 paintings at home because I just keep painting.”

Johnson has a variety of paintings available. She has done nature scenes, animals, portraits and abstract pieces.

“The abstract pieces, most of them I just start putting some paint on and whatever I see, then I start accenting that part,” said Johnson. “It’s just kind of a development.”

Many of the nature and animal paintings she creates are inspired by her travels and the different places she has lived.

“I’ve traveled all over this country, from one coast to the other coast and all the way down to the southern border,” said Johnson.

Johnson hosts art classes at Your Sweet Pickin’s Boutique and has a class coming up 1-4 p.m. June 24. Those interested in the class can register at Your Sweet Pickin’s Boutique.

“I still have a lot of paintings up at Your Sweet Pickin’s Boutique,” said Johnson, all of which are also for sale. Prices vary depending on size, material, framed or unframed and the time it took to complete.
