CCHS helps Meals from the Heartland

Clarke Communtiy High School had all 400-plus high school students spend time packaging meals for Meals from the Heartland May 10. Many community members donated their time to help as well.

Monetary donations were made in order for the event to take place. In order to put on the packaging event May 10 student organizers raised money for the ingredients to be brought in, boxed and shipped to those in need.

In total, $4,300 was raised for Meals from the Heartland in order to package 43,000 meals.

Donors that gave more than $100 and volunteered their time to help package meals were Saylor Realty, Stoney Oak Realty, Reynoldson Lawfirm, Clarke County State Bank, Great Western Bank and Select Genetics. Others that donated more than $100 were Clarke County Development Corp., The Eagles, Christ’s Way Church, Lanny Robins and the Class of 2018.

The meals have specific measurements of dry rice, soybeans, vitamins, vegetables and seasonings that go in each package. When water is added, one package can feed six people.

The meals packaged May 10 will go to the Osceola school pantry, the Osceola food pantry and to Convoy of Hope in Missouri to be distributed to those in need for regular aid or for disaster relief.
