Cindy Love

Afton

Cindy Love, 66, of Afton died Friday, May 4, 2018, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.

Celebration of life services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., in Afton. The Rev. Tim Maxa officiated. Open visitation was from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family. Lucinda Kay (Clayton) Love, daughter of Frances Virginia (Still) Clayton and Raymond Darrel Clayton, was born April 5, 1952, in Creston. She was educated in Creston Schools. She studied at Southwestern Community College, and then earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and human services from Graceland University in Lamoni.

On Aug. 12, 1968, Cindy married Riley Patrick Love in Corning. They lived in Creston, Wilton, and then for a year in California, before returning to Creston. Pat died in 1976. Cindy worked at in-home counseling with kids and families in a seven-county area. She worked also with Two Rivers Psychological Services of Des Moines. Additionally, she and her son, Dave, operated a respite care service for parents with kids. She lived primarily in Afton.

On Jan. 23, 2015, Cindy married Mark Helmick in Afton. They made their home in Afton.

Cindy served as a Cub Scout leader in the early years of her kids activities.

Cindy is survived her husband Mark Helmick of Afton; sons, David Love (significant other Jessie Comstock) of Lorimor and Joe Love of Redding; daughters, Tammy Love of Donnellson and Angel Love of Van Meter; sister Pauline (Dave) Richman of Winterset; grandchildren, Tyler (Alyssa) Love, Marriah (Zach Dean) Love, Bradley and Bailey Love, Brett Taylor, Taylor Ruble, Victoria Weiss, Syndi (Tyler) Miller and Shantel (Jordan Ingram) Love; great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Addison, Aubriana, Kynslee, Regan and Avery; and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Pat; sister Linda Clayton; brothers, Jim and Denny Clayton; and grandsons, Thomas Ruble and Justin Love.
