Choir receives Superior at State Competition

The Clarke High School Chamber Choir under the direction of Ms. Ann March participated in the State Large Group Vocal Festival in Atlantic on Friday May 4. The Choir received a Division I, Superior rating, at the State Contest. The Choir performed three selections at the contest: “Hava Nageela”, an Israeli folk song arranged by Maurice Goldman; “Deep River”, a traditional spiritual arranged by Linda Spevacek; and “Jabula Jesu”, an African folk song arranged by Stephen Hatfield.

The choir was judged by a panel of three judges. The choir was evaluated on the areas of Tone Quality, Intonation, Rhythm, Balance and Blend, Techniques including attacks and releases of notes and control of ranges, Musicianship qualities of style, phrasing, tempo, dynamics and emotional involvement, Diction and other performance factors including choice of literature, appropriate appearance, poise, posture facial expression and memorization.
