Clarke golf back at it

Deutsch and Marker to lead boys and girls, respectively

KNOXVILLE — The season is off on the right foot for the Clarke golf teams, particularly the girls, who defeated West Central Valley and Knoxville Friday in a triangular with a team score of 227.

Clarke sophomore Sadie Marker picked up where she left off, posting a score over nine holes of 49 strokes.

The boys finished second with a team score of 198, led by Conner Deutsch’s card of 43.

Looking back and in front

Gone are senior boys Gabe Crawford and Ethan Potter as well as senior girls LeeAnn Helgevold, Vanessa Bakley and Breana Lowry.

Returning for the boys is last year’s consistent best player, Conner Deutsch, who averaged 43.86 strokes per nine holes, the sixth best average in the South Central Coference. He also averaged 85.50 strokes per 18 holes, which was seventh best in the SCC.

The next best returning scorer for the Indians is Carter Wilken, who averaged 53.20 strokes per nine holes and 104.75 over 18 hole courses.

For the girls, then freshman Sadie Marker found herself compiling nine-hole scores in the high 40’s, which was often the best score on the team. Her nine-hole average was 50.86 last year, second best on the team to Lowry. She averaged 103.67 strokes over 18 holes. Sidney Marker returns with a 60.83 nine-hole score average.
