Excitement is once again building for the annual “Feller’s Cake Bake” in the local scouts. This year, the auction will be held on Monday March 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Clarke Elementary Cafeteria.

Traditionally, the Feller’s Cake Bake has created an opportunity for Cub Scouts (grades 1-5) and Boy Scouts (aged 11-18) to bake and decorate a cake with the help of a male role model. The only requirement the scouts must follow is that the entire creation must be edible. This experience allows the scouts to use their imagination and engineering skills to produce a baked good that will be sold in a live auction.

“At the live auction we ask that each scout tell the audience about their creation, and what makes it special. This helps expose the scout to public speaking. When the scout sees the bidders competing for their creation it helps them have a better understanding of being part of a community. Once the auction is over each scout will then write a thank you card to the person or business that purchased their baked good, by doing this the scout is able to practice writing and showing gratitude to those that have helped support them in scouting” said Calli Shields.

This year, leaders are opening up the auction to any baked good or dessert of the scouts’ choosing. Leaders are hoping this will give the bakers a more creative license, and give the bidders more variety. The highest bidder will be leaving with an original masterpiece whether it be cake, pie or specialty dessert.

“I am excited to see what each scout creates,” said Rose Greif, 2018 bake chairperson.

“It is always amazing to see the people in our community support such a unique event. The support shown to the youth helps them understand that the effort they are putting forth to become valuable citizens is appreciated by members of their community,” said Emmi Binning, 2018 bake chairperson.

All are invited to attend this event, please enter Clarke Elementary on the south side of the school. Items may be viewed as early as 6:15 p.m., live bidding will begin at 6:30 p.m.
