OSCEOLA — Alyssa Davis was a force to be reckoned with, scoring 19 points as Nodaway Valley cruised to its second road win in as many days with a 50-31 beatdown of Clarke Saturday.

The Wolverines’ 2-3 zone befuddled the Indians, while NV shot about every attempt it wanted.

“Tonight we played a pretty much complete game. We didn’t turn the ball over too much. Played great defense and ran the offenses really good,” assistant coach Gary Thompson said.

“That’s probably our best whole game of the year.”

Clarke’s Megan Linskens and Deseree Stubbe struggled to get open shots as the Wolverines guarded them fiercely. Their movements drew attention throughout the whole game.

Ashlynn Oehlert and Sarah Davis picked up their aggressiveness on the offensive end, as both added seven points.

“Nodaway Valley was very aggressive on defense and we just didn’t handle the pressure like we have in past games,” Clarke coach Christa Subbert said. “We turned the ball over way too much and NV turned a lot of those turnovers into points. I thought we played hard, but we didn’t play smart.”

NV moved to 9-2 and 6-1 in the Pride of Iowa with the victory.

Clarke’s loss dropped it to 4-7.

17-point comeback

BLOOMFIELD — After incurring a daunting 41-24 halftime deficit on Tuesday, Jan 2, the Clarke girls stormed back with a huge comeback for a 64-58 win at Davis County.

Linskens’ 21 points led the way, while Stubbe added 14 and Davis added 12.

“We started off a little off on the offensive end, and in our half court defense we gave them a lot of open looks that they made,” Subbert said. “We forced turnovers the first half, but either didn’t score off them, or turned it over ourselves. The second half we picked it up defensively and got them rushing their offense which in turn led to more possessions for us. The second half we started scoring off turnovers which gave us the advantage the second half.”

Clarke gained its first lead of the game on a pair of free throws with 5:24 left in the fourth quarter and held on.
