BREAKING: Deadly New Year's Eve fire

Osceola Volunteer Firefighters battle a fire from 7:40 p.m. to 1 a.m. New Year's Eve at 723 N. Main St. The resident of the home was not initially found and a missing persons report was filed by the family. According to an Osceola Police Department press release received Wednesday morning, a body was found in the remains of the house and has been taken to the Office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner in Ankeny for further examination and identification. A house fire at 723 N. Main St. on Dec. 31 resulted in the death of an individual, yet to be identified, according to an Osceola Police Department press release.

With the assistance of the Osceola Fire Department, Osceola Police Department and Clarke County Ambulance, the body has been removed and taken to the Office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner in Ankeny for further examination and identification.

No further information will be released until positive identification has been made and family members have been notified.

The fire destroyed the residence. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
