Area football roundup: CD and I-35 grab big district wins

URBANDALE — Interstate 35 moved to 5-2 on the year and 3-2 in district platy after winning its third consecutive game, a 33-7 decision over Des Moines Christian on Saturday,

The Roadrunners had the game postponed due to inclement weather Friday.

Mason Cassady ran for 210 yards on 16 carries for two touchdowns. Bridger Hutton added 53 yards on the ground and Egli contributed 40 more.

Egli completed just two passes, but one of them went for a 32-yard touchdown to Darian Brown.

Chris Godfrey lived in the DMC backfield, recording eight tackles and three sacks as the Roadrunner defense held Des Moines Christian to 154 yards.

Joey Bregar added 7.5 tackles, including two for loss. Egli contributed 5.5 tackles and recovered a fumble. Cassady and Tanner Daniels combined for 10 tackles. Bregar is now third overall in Class 1A District 5 with 56.5 tackles. Godfrey’s five sacks are tops in the district.

Spencer Pontilio also picked off DMC quarterback Jackson Waring.

UP NEXT — Interstate 35 (5-2, 3-2) will play at Woodward Acamdey (0-7, 0-5) Friday. Woodward Academy is coming off a 26-13 loss to CD.

Tyler Davis and Tyke Walker ate up huge chunks of yards on the ground. Davis picked up 119 on 22 carries and also hauled in a 36-yard catch.

Walker ran for 93 yards on 12 carries and scored a touchdown.

Quarterback Carter Boothe also had a rushing touchdown. He was 5 of 14 passing for 62 yards and two interceptions. Darneli Geiger hauled in both interceptions.

Gunner Graham hauled in CD’s lone passing touchdown on a pass from Davis.

Kaige Leymaster had the evening's biggest defensive play with a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Walker led the Cardinal defense with 8.5 tackles and Wyatt Dale had six.

Rylon O’Dell, Gideon Porter and Nate Tharp all registered quarterback sacks, while O’Dell and Porter both had two solo tackles for loss apiece.

UP NEXT — CD (5-2, 3-2) plays at Pella Christian (7-0, 5-0). Pella Christian is coming off a 31-14 win over Class 1A District 5’s second-best team, Pleasantville.

Murray fell 50-14 to Lamoni Monday night as a makeup for Friday’s postponed game. No stats were available from the game.
