Indians drop road contest to Albia

ALBIA — The road was not hospitable to Clarke football in the Indians’ 40-8 loss in Albia last Friday.

Clarke fell behind 40-0 at the half before finding some headway in the second half with defensive stops.

The Clarke JV football team defeated Panorama 38-34 Monday.

Bedford 74,

Murray 20

BEDFORD — Even in a 54-point loss, Murray’s young football squad found its most cohesive working offensive formula of the season in Friday’s 74-20 loss at Bedford.

Reece Held connected on 7 of 12 passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 36 yards in the loss. He also caught a 12-yard pass from Aden Cosner.

Jeran Cosner racked up 48 yards and a touchdown on three receptions and Devin Slaughter picked up 32 more and another touchdown to go with three catches. Slaughter also ran for 38 yards on eight carries.

Chance Lecy’s 25-yard reception also went for a touchdown.

Bedford (4-2), remains undefeated in district play, as the Bulldogs ran for 284 rushing yards and had 69 passing yards.

The Mustangs did turn the ball over four times.

Defensively, Held intercepted a pass and recorded six tackles, tied for the best mark on the team.

Colton Hiatt made life difficult for Bedford with two solo tackles for loss to go with his five overall tackles.

Other tackling leaders were Cole Lecy with 4.5, Chance Lecy with 4 and Brian Bowers with 3.5.

Held averaged 30.7 yards per attempt on seven punts.
