Centerville clips Clarke

Clarke fell behind early in a Tuesday, Sept. 24 home loss to Centerville, dropping a quick match to a Reds team that it had already defeated 2-1 on Aug. 31.

The Indians fell 18-25, 21-25, 12-25, with coach Molly Jackson even trying different lineups late in the match for a spark that did not come.

The loss dropped Clarke to 9-11. The Indians round out the regular season with matches today (Thursday) at Stuart, West Central Valley, the following Tuesday at Chariton and at home on the 12th against Pleasantville.

Deseree Stubbe had seven kills to lead the Clarke attack, but no other Indians got going with their swings consistently throughout the match.

Clarke struggled mightily on serves, missing on 19 of 44 tries.

SAYDEL — The Monday prior to Clarke’s loss to Centerville, the Indians split four matches, picking up wins over Des Moines North and Des Moines East.

The win over North was Clarke’s second such victory of the season.

Clarke battled but fell 17-21, 19-21 to West Central Valley.

The Indians were able to register 11 blocks as a team as the squad’s wall got up enough to make things difficult for the Wildcats, but the Indians did not register the needed points to pick up a win.

Gilbert had three block assists and Stubbe had four blocks total, including two solo.

Beydler led the Indians with nine digs and Ashlynn Oehlert added six more.

Clarke then defeated North 21-17, 21-8.

Stubbe led Clarke in serving at 7 of 8 with four aces. Clarke had 17 aces as a team.

Gilbert and Crawford both blasted home three kills.

Clarke’s three-set win against East, 21-7, 17-21, 15-13, came down to the wire as Clarke showed its experience in finishing a close match strong.

Beydler and Oehlert were busy moving all over the floor with 14 and 10 digs respectively.

Clarke had one of its best serving days of the season, as the Indians were 46-52 with 10 aces.

Kadel was 14-15 and both Oehlert and Stubbe were exactly 9-10 serving. Stubbe added eight kills and four aces.

The Indians fell in a powerful performance by Panorama, 19-21, 5-21 to end the day. Panorama served 38 of 40 with 11 aces as Clarke struggled with serve receive.

Oehlert’s six digs led the Indians.
