Clarke volleyball takes second at Colfax-Mingo

Interstate 35 picks up first two wins of season, Central Decatur goes 3-0

EDDYVILLE — The Clarke Indians lost to Eddyville-Blakesburg in four sets Sept. 5 25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 10-25.

Ashlynn Oehlert posted a team-high in digs with 20, she also added a kill. Chynna Beydler and Cady Crawford posted 16 and 15 digs, respectively. Beydler added three kills while Crawford tacked on two aces.

Kristi Kadel was all over the stat sheet with 10 assists, seven digs, two kills plus an assist. Deseree Stubbe led the team in both blocks, with 14 and kills, with five. Hayley Gilbert had 10 total blocks of her own.

“Hayley (Gilbert) and Deseree (Stubbe) helped stop their front row hitters with much needed blocks,” Clarke coach Molly Jackson said.

Results and stats for Saturday’s contest against Colfax-Mingo were not available at the time of press, but the Indians took second in the tournament to Baxter. The Indians defeated Des Moines Hoover and Colfax-Mingo.

Clarke volleyball is now 7-6, and is easily outpacing its play from a season ago.

Roadrunners take two

Interstate 35 picked up its first two wins of the season this week against West Central Valley and Pleasantville.

The Roadrunners pulled out a 5-set victory over West Central Valley, 10-25, 25-20, 15-25, 25-18, 15-10 Thursday thanks in part to 32 assists, nine digs and five aces from Kate Stanley. Olivia Carlson added 12 digs and two aces while going a perfect 21-21 on serves. Reanna Hubbard tallied eight kills, eight total blocks and two digs. Ainsley Maske had a nice day as well, adding four kills, five digs and five aces.

I-35’s win over Pleasantville in straight sets, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20 was its lone win during a triangular at Pleasantville. The Roadrunners also lost Mount Ayr in the triangular.

The Roadrunners dropped all four of their matches in Saturday’s tournament at Chariton.

On Sept. 5, I-35 fell to Grand View Christian in straight sets 10-25, 12-25. Carlson posted nine digs in the losing effort. Bailey McCuddin added seven digs and a kill while Maddie Olsen contributed three digs. Saylor Vodraska also added two digs, an ace and a kill to the stat sheet.

The Roadrunners will be on the road for their next two games. Those games will be against East Union and Mount Ayr in Mount Ayr on Saturday. I-35 will host Clarke on Monday.

Stats for Saturday’s tournament and Monday’s triangular were not made available at the time of press.

Perfect week

LEON — Central Decatur put together a perfect week with wins over Lenox, Lamoni and Nodaway Valley.

The Cardinals eked out a 5-set win at Lenox Thursday night 25-14, 25-20, 22-25, 24-26, 15-9.

Emma Atwood led the way against the Tigers with 26 digs, 20 kills and three aces. Alliey Boswell added 21 digs to her resume. Erica Kauzlarich contributed 15 digs and 11 kills along with four aces of her own. Raven Ameigh and Maizee Lindsey both dished out 17 assists apiece. Abbie Ridgway added five aces, seven kills and seven digs.

On Monday, Central Decatur swept its triangular against Lamoni, 21-25, 25-17, 15-13 and defeated Nodaway Valley, 25-16, 19-25, 15-8.

The Cardinals had 32 digs as a team along with eight aces. Atwood roped another nine kills and Kauzlarich finished right behind her with eight kills. Atwood, Kauzlarich and Boswell contributed seven of the eight aces. Ameigh led the way in passing with nine assists.

Central Decatur now sits at 7-3 on the season with a match on the road Saturday at Ballard.
