Fair Pita Sandwich Crown Claimed by Osceola Cook

DES MOINES — Belinda Myers of Osceola won first place and a $100 cash award in the Best Pita Sandwich competition, judged Saturday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Geraldine Tait of Humeston claimed second place and $50. Sharon Gates of Des Moines earned third place and $25.

Entrants were judged on taste, creativity and presentation.

Contestants Serve Slices of Happiness in Fair Pie Contest

Judges had their plates full with entries in the Machine Shed Pies competition judged Monday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Tanya Hardy of Osceola won the Sweepstakes award and Keri Crowley of Indianola earned Reserve Sweepstakes honors.

Entries were judged on quality of crust, filling, originality and general appearance.

Osceola Baker Joins Iowa State Fair Upper Crust

Tanya K. Hardy of Osceola won first place in the North “40” Pie Contest – Oatmeal Pie judged Sunday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Keri Crowley of Indianola earned second place and Bridget Lottman of Norwalk claimed third.

Contestants were challenged to create an award-worthy oatmeal pie. Entries were judged on flavor, consistency, crust and appearance.

Osceola Baker Uses Chocolate to Win Competition at Iowa State Fair

Belinda Myers of Osceola snagged first place in the Desserts for Christina contest judged Monday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Stephanie Adamson Ward of Indianola claimed second and Dani Koski of Roland grabbed third.

Entrants were challenged to make a dessert where chocolate was the main flavor. The chocolate could include milk, dark, white or a combination. Entries were judged on taste, appearance and originality.

State Fair Cupcake Crown Won by Osceola Baker

Belinda Myers of Osceola won first place in the Make it Sweet with C&H Sugar Cupcakes competition, judged Tuesday at the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Sally Kilkenny of Granger claimed second place and Kevin Greiman of Haverhill took third place.

Entries were judged on taste, creativity and recipe quality.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There are 177 divisions, 769 classes and over 9,856 entries at this year’s Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny Ice Cream.
