Local arrests have regional impact

In a rare move, Osceola Police Chief Marty Duffus took to the podium during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting. His message? The hard work his officers put into curbing drug use in Osceola is having an impact across the Midwest.

“I can’t give a lot of detail, but I did want to bring to the Council’s attention some praise to my staff. Over the last two weeks, they’ve made some pretty significant narcotics-related arrests. Some of it is related here, and others of it comes out of Des Moines — and others of it comes out of Illinois,” said Duffus. “The guys put in a boat load of work.”

Obviously, they were not alone. Duffus put in sleepless nights right alongside his team.

“[I’m] very proud of the guys,” said Duffus. “They worked very, very hard, and they met some wonderful results.”

While he couldn’t share specifics, the Chief said he thinks the information they were able to gather will have an impact in other places.

Duffus also informed the Council plans are in place to add more officers to the force. The Department is holding a testing session this Saturday.

“Applicants have been invited to come do the physical agility and the written test,” said Duffus. “From there, we’ll take whoever survives and move on to interviews.”
