Published: Thursday, July 13, 2017 4:27 a.m. CDT

Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund is hosting its annual convention 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines. The theme for the year is “Revolution Iowa: From Protest to Power.” Presidential hopeful and U.S. Senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders will be delivering the keynote address.

It will be Sanders’ first visit since his failed Presidential run in 2016. He was an influential candidate in Iowa, winning votes from both parties. He’ll be speaking alongside #BlackLivesMatter network cofounder Alicia Garcia, and a number of grassroots thinkers and organizers, including Tom Philpott, agricultural reporter for Mother Jones, Michael Lighty of National Nurses United and Bree Carlson of People’s Action.
