Central Decatur 5

LEON – Central Decatur surrendered five runs in the sixth inning here June 29, as Martensdale-St. Marys broke open an otherwise close 8-5 ballgame on its way to a 13-5 win over the Cardinals.

Ricky Marcus took the loss, giving up five runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched with four walks and four strikeouts. Martensdale-St. Marys got to freshman Kolby Hewlett for seven runs on seven hits.

Marcus stroked a double and drove in two runs in the loss, while Craig Beavers was 2-for-2 with a double and one RBI. Tyler Davis added two hits and an RBI, as did Michel Evertsen.

Central Decatur 1

LEON — Jared Hensley and Kaleb Anderson combined to shut down Central Decatur in a nerve-wracking 3-1 win in Leon Friday.

Hensley struck out six in pitching most of the way before Anderson struck out three to clinch the game in the eighth. Both were backed up by stellar defense, as the Tigers did not make an error in the field.

Derek Venteicher had a double and a triple and Brenden Christensen added two more hits.

Rylon O’Dell took the loss despite not giving up an earned run, with two of the runs coming after an error in the eighth.

Carter Boothe took the Cardinals into the sixth tied at 1-1 before giving the ball up to O’Dell for the rest of the game.

Tyler Davis was 2-for-3 with a double for the Cardinals.
