Free CyberPatriot summer camp

From 8 to noon, Monday, July 17, to Friday, July 21, students in grades 7 - 12 will take part in an exciting new program at Clarke schools. CyberPatriot teaches children how to detect and defend against cyber attacks.

“No previous experience necessary,” said coach Mary Murphy, and the program is free. “We are working in the middle school computer lab, so all materials are supplied.”

In the program, students take on the role of IT director for a fictitious company, learning how to protect against hackers and data loss.

“This provides a safe, legal means to do that. Legal being the operative word,” said program mentor Tech Sergeant Miles Murphy of the Iowa Air National Guard, Cyber Ops. “On their own, kids can get themselves in trouble.”
