Police and fire service report

In April, the Osceola Police Department had 30 students tour the Law Enforcement Center as part of a program through Osceola Chamber Main Street.

As of April, the department reports being 40 cases ahead of where they were last time this year. Officers responded to 379 calls, initiated 233 contacts and issued 59 traffic citations, all increases over March numbers. Officers investigated 12 accidents — down one from March — and arrested 30 people on 35 charges, also a slight decrease from last month.

Officers also handled a double-fatality accident on Highway 69 by the Clarke County Historical Museum.

The Osceola Volunteer Fire Department responded to one car fire, one hazmat call, two car accidents and two structure fires in April. This represents 35 man hours of time. Firefighters also put in 24 hours of monthly maintenance and 81 hours of monthly training and education.
