Easter comes to the square

Saturday, April 15, Easter comes to the Osceola on the square. With a bottom-dollar bottomless breakfast and several activities for kids to enjoy, families won’t want to miss the festivities this weekend.

From 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Senior Center, kids and adults can enjoy “Breakfast with the Bunny.” Sponsored by Hy-Vee and Osceola Foods, all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage costs just $2 per adult, $1 per child.

“Jeff [Mallory] has been the big start on this breakfast. He has worked really hard preparing and planning last year and this year,” said Osceola Chamber Main Street Event Coordinator Samantha Horton. “Now we have Makayla from Osceola Foods. She has been a huge participant in all that we have done.”

The breakfast is affordable enough for nearly everyone to grab a bite. After breakfast, children can have their photos taken with the Easter Bunny, for a fee. They can also compete in a coloring contest, new this year, and of course, join in the Easter egg hunt, sponsored by Country Concrete.

"Over at the bandstand, Pastor Chuck will start it off with the story of Easter. We'll have the results of the coloring contest and then we'll do the egg hunts," said OCMS Executive Director Derek Lumsden. "Thanks to Clarke County Publishing, we have four golden eggs this year, which means each age group has the potential to win a bike. You can see those at Clarke County State Bank and Great Western Bank."

In each age group, a winner will also be selected to receive a special Easter basket from OCMS, said Horton.

In the past, upwards of 500 children have attended the hunt. The group is expecting at least that many children this year, plus their other family members.

“There is a lot of time put into this,” said Horton. “We couldn’t do this event without the volunteers!”
