Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) West Campus second-year student Carlos Tamayo (left) of Osceola poses with 17-time Academy Award-nominated sound engineer Greg Russell at the Celebrate! Innovation (ci) week event. Russell has spent 40 years as a sound engineer, working on films such as Pearl Harbor, the Transformers series, Spider-Man, National Treasure and The DaVinci Code. He said he still loves what he does. Russell told the capacity-crowd audience that he mixes sounds so you feel like you are right in the middle of the scene. Other ciWeek speakers included Apollo astronauts Ken Mattingly and Al Worden, beatbox world champion Kaila Mullady, New York Times best-selling author and “zombie expert” Max Brooks, world-renowned rock climber Kevin Jorgeson and Former University of Iowa Wrestling Coach and Gold Medalist Dan Gable.
