Girl Scout forecast

Osceola Girl Scouts — Service Unit 530 — includes girls from Osceola, Murray, Van Wert, Weldon and Woodburn.

Last year there were six troops, with a total of 52 girls. A little over 10,000 packages of cookies were sold. The profits for each $4 box pays for many things, including camp upkeep, incentive prizes, badges, cash deposit to troop accounts and for the Osceola Scout House.

This year there are six troops, as well.

Troop 674 — First-year Daisys (Kindergarten) — Nine girls are selling.

Troop 7242 — Second-year Daisys (First grade) — Four girls are selling, with a goal of 600 packages. Proceeds will be used for a movie night and an overnight at the Scout House. They will also be buying toys for the Toys for Christmas program and taking donations for the Backpack Program. A booth will be at the Four Corners Casey’s General Store on Sunday, March 5.

Troop 78 — First-year Brownies (Second grade) — Nine girls are selling, with a goal of 6000 packages. They are trying to win the troop campout at Camp Sacajawea in Boone and the Adventureland trip. Proceeds will be used on toys for the Toys for Christmas program. The troop is also taking box donations for local police, fire and EMS workers, as well as cash donations for the animal shelter. A booth will be at the town square 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 11, and at the Four Corners Casey’s General Store from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 3, and 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 19.

Troop 107 — Second-year Brownies (Third grade) — Nine girls are selling, with a goal of 2000 packages of cookies. Proceeds will go toward an overnighter, as well as badges and the Toys for Christmas program.

Troop 237 — First-year Juniors (Fourth grade) — Nine girls are selling, with a goal of 5000 packages. Proceeds will go toward a trip to South Dakota. They will be participating in the Every Kid in a Park program. Proceeds will also go toward camp fees and Toys for Christmas. In addition, the troop is accepting box donations for the backpack program. Booths will be at the Four Corners Casey’s General Store 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Hy-Vee from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, the Casey’s General Store in Murray from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 3, Farewar from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 4, and Hy-Vee from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11.

Troop 863 — Second-year Juniors (Fifth grade) — Eight girls are selling, with a goal of 1600 packages of cookies. A majority of the girls would like to attend camp this year. A booth will be at Fareway 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 3.
