Mayor hosts Boy Scouts during chamber tour

Published: Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 11:13 a.m. CST

Tuesday, Jan. 31, Mayor Thomas Kedley met with a local Boy Scout troop at City Hall to help them learn more about local government and how they can get involved. Questions ranged from silly to serious, with an emphasis on the differences between city, county, state and federal government roles. The boys were also very interested in new park and recreation projects.

In February, the Iowa Iowa Grocery Industry Association announced the deadline for their Build with Bags program. Any group purchasing park equipment made of recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic is eligible for a grant up to $2,000. Deadline for the grant applications is March 30. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22.

As spring gets closer, more programs focused on outdoor activities will be announced. Check future editions for more information, and be sure to check out the Operation Recreation Foundation on page 9.
